Federal govt asks ECOWAS Court to throw out Nnamdi Kanu’s $800m suit

Image
The Federal Government has told the Community Court of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, sitting in Abuja to throw out a fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. According to the Federal Government, Kanu who was granted bail by the Federal High Court, has allegedly escaped from his ongoing trial and for this reason, the judgment of the ECOWAS Court on the suit would serve no purpose. The IPOB leader had filed the suit on March 3, 2016 demanding $800 million as compensation from the Federal Government for his alleged unlawful arrest in 2015 and continued detention. Lawyer to the Federal Government, Mrs Maimuna Shiru, stated in an objection to the suit that Kanu, having been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja where he is being tried alongside others on charges of treasonable felony, on April 25, 2017, it was unnecessary for the ECOWAS Court to adjudicate on the I...

Cases are not won on pages of Newspapers - IPOB tells FG

Image
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has chided the federal government over its alleged attempt to frustrate the suit instituted by the body on the enforcement of human rights before the Community Court of West Africa (ECOWAS Court). “Nigeria should stop running to the pages of newspapers to conduct litigation and prosecution, they should come to the law court to defend their record. Let the strength of their evidence speak for them rather than relying on cheap propaganda. Cases are won and lost in the law courts not on the pages of newspapers,” IPOB said in a statement on Monday. IPOB said that the Federal Government of Nigeria and her agents were seeking to frustrate the ongoing human rights enforcement process, stating that the present regime “when confronted with their deeds in a competent court of law, they resort to blackmail, cheap lies, misinformation and sometimes inducing the certain sections of the media to help them sway public opinion against victims of...

THE REAL REASON WHY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IS QUIET OVER BIAFRA

Image
Biafrans are humans living in Nigeria against their wish, a people whose territories are forcefully occupied by the sons and daughters of both Usman Dan Fodio and Oduduwa without their permission. The so-called unity of Nigeria is a sham, a fraud of incomparable magnitude that ought to have been corrected if the international community truly desired the best for nations under them. The Biafra question, one bursting at the seams with cases of inhuman acts of torture, wanton killings, genocide/progrom, and unprovoked rape and cataclysmic invasion by Fulani herdsmen, has continued to receive cold shoulders from the supposed international watchdogs, and one cannot help wondering why. Why is there graveyard silence from the world concerning the very loud and obvious Biafra question? After a lengthy discussion with one of our brothers that resides in the US against his wish, we concluded that the international silence that has greeted the Biafra agitation is occssioned by w...

Image
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has berated the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, for saying that the group was dead. Speaking with Sunday Sun yesterday, the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful, said it was unfortunate that the Minister after seeing the impact of the boycott order by the group on the Anambra election still went on to deceive the people by saying that IPOB was dead.   He said:  “IPOB family and its leadership worldwide do not wish to join issues with Mohammed or those who may desire to indulge in the laughable fantasy that IPOB has been weakened as a result of the successful boycott of the fraudulent Anambra elections. Ben Bruce fires back at Nigerian government for calling Atiku ‘control-freak’

Image
The senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Ben Murray-Bruce has frowned at the presidency’s reaction to the resignation of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from the All Progressives Congress, APC. President Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, had branded Atiku a ‘control-freak’, adding that he attempted severally to take control of the APC party structure but failed woefully. The Senator described Onochie’s statement as sad and derogatory, coming from a spokesman of the President. He stressed that APC should not forget Atiku’s contribution in 2015 to Buhari’s victory before throwing insults at him. “It is rather sad that President @MBuhari and the @NGRPresident would allow an official spokesman of the President publicly insult Atiku and call him unprintable names just because he left @APCNigeria. “Have they so soon forgotten Atiku’s contribution to their electoral victory,” he tweeted.

Nigeria Soldiers gave us human meat as Suya – Sobowale

Image
A veteran journalist and professor of journalism, Idowu Sobowale, has revealed how he and other journalists were served human meat as Suya while covering the events of the civil war. He said this while calling on people singing war songs to have a rethink, adding that war is not something to joke with. Sobowale, who also served as a political adviser to a former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande, told Punch how the capital of Anambra State, Awka, was levelled to the ground with no single building standing. He said, “If you hear people singing war songs, they are most probably people who have never experienced war. Even if you escape, seeing the sufferings of others can be terrifying. “There was a day when we got to the third marine command and the commander, Benjamin Adekunle, asked if we (journalists) liked Suya, he said we should get into the vehicle and he took us to where Biafra armoured cars had been disabled, with soldiers killed inside them...

Nnamdi Kanu should forget about BIAFRA – Gen. Gowon

Image
A former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd), has told Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to seek dialogue with the Nigerian Government rather than calling for secession. Gowon advised Kanu to engage the Federal Government in talks to address issues affecting the South-East, and stop seeking disintegration as it could lead to loss of lives. The former military leader gave the advice while presenting his paper titled, “Unity in diversity: Responding to the current challenges of nation-building in Nigeria,” at the 2017 Distinguished Annual Lecture of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Jos, Plateau State. He said, “My young friend, Nnamdi Kanu, was not born during the civil war, which was declared ‘no victor, no vanquished.’ “It is sad to recall what happened at that time; the best way to seek redress is through dialogue. “Kanu should pursue a healthy conversation on issues he is not comfortable w...

When will Mugabes of Nigeria in the person of Buhari resign?

Image
Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has finally resigned a week after his former political allies and the army took steps to get him out of office. The resignation signifies an expected end to the days of the dictatorial and undemocratic rule in Zimbabwe.  Mugabe has ruled for about four decades. To point thoroughly to the level of highhandedness and autocracy displayed by Mugabe, he unanimously sacked his Vice-President, Emmerson Mnangagwa. It was the sacking that led to the military takeover which finally forced Mugabe out and made him bow to civil pressure. Wild jubilations and celebrations are presently ongoing all over the world – Africa in particular – as the 93-year-old man that have been in power since the country’s independence on April 18, 1980 gets out of power. Many described his resignation as a victory to Africa. Infact, The Punch editorial argued that his resignation “is good for Zimbabwe, (and) it is excellent for Africa.” Even with all th...

Image
Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has cautioned Minister of information, Lai Mohammed, over his comments that IPOB is dead. The group warned that such declaration could lead to provocation in the South East and South South regions. Mohammed had told newsmen that “the large turnout witnessed during the election has sounded the death knell on IPOB. “I think what that proved really is that IPOB does not represent the good people of Anambra or any state in the South East. “If truly they represented the people, the IPOB propaganda about the election really showed that they are not on ground.” Reacting, BNYL Leader, Princewill Obuka, said “That old man does not know how determined the Biafrans are. He saw what happened during military raid.” “Such resistance should have told them that Biafrans, if armed, would really consume Nigeria like Kanu was saying. “He should respect his old age and turn attention to Boko Haram and Shiites”. However, the group ad...

IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, Mr Emma Powerful in a press release made available to DAILY POST in Awka Stated that the new version of Radio Biafra which has been on air for sometime has been dishing out fake news about the group’s secessionist struggle. Powerful said the fake radio station which was broadcasting from Florida in the United States of America as against the original station which is based in London was the handiwork of the DSS, which is using it to deceive the people and also misinforming them. Recall that a radio station announced as Radio Biafra had a month ago, upon commencement of operations announced that it had removed the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu as the Director General of the station for acts that were deemed inimical to the struggle for Bia...

Image

Mugabe may be gone, but the looting remains – Foreign Policy

Image
President Robert Mugabe kept Zimbabweans guessing right until the bitter end, but his 37-year reign is finally over. Africa’s oldest head of state was last week placed under house arrest by his own military chief, Gen. Constantine Chiwenga. A mass demonstration followed on Saturday, Nov. 18, with thousands of people filling the streets to demand his ouster. Then, on Sunday, the ruling Zanu-PF party formally expelled Mugabe, his wife Grace, and many of their closest allies. That night, the president made a nationally televised address in which he was expected to resign. He did not. After defying his opponents for nearly four decades, it was perhaps inevitable that the famously stubborn leader would have one last trick up his sleeve. But Mugabe’s time is finally up. He resigned on Tuesday, soon after the Parliament began impeachment proceedings, according to Parliamentary Speaker Jacob Mudenda. The only leader the southern African nation has known since the end of whit...
