Buhari Govt approves N500million for EFCC to maintain new office

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved N500 million for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the maintenance of its new office complex. The EFCC recently moved into a new 10-storey permanent office at Jabi, Abuja. Garba Shehu, the spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the end of the FEC meeting presided by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. He said the anti-graft agency also got the approval for the procurement of 700 computers, 100 laptops and 25 laser printers at about N459 million. “Another memo for the purchase of 15 utility vehicles for the EFCC was also approved. “They are expanding and need the vehicles for their operations. All the vehicles are from local assembly plants. “ FEC approved the purchase of five water patrol boats for the Nigerian Ports Authority, Marina, Lagos.This is for coastline security,” he said.

MINISTER of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige, has said lottery agencies in the country are helping to reduce unemployment among youths, insisting that lottery was a major factor in the growth of developed countries. Ngige, who spoke at the National Union of Lottery Agents and Employees, NULAE, lecture in Asaba, Delta State, said lottery was a good way to increase internallly generated revenue, IGR, in any growing economy. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, says no one can argue against the successes of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, accusing “naysayers” of resorting to fake news out of frustration. A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the beheading of the Charles Chrisanthus, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman in Bare Ward, Numan Local Government Area, LGA, Adamawa State, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. XENDER NEWS had reported that Chrisanthus was said to have been killed in the presence of his wife, Dorcas, in his farm on August 29, 2018. There was stampede on Thursday as former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, headquarters in Abuja. DAILY POST gathered that a mammoth crowd stormed the gate of the building as the Wazirin Adamawa arrived. Youths believed to be of Atiku’s opposing camp clashed with the former VP’s supporters, a situation that triggered pandemonium. A source in Atiku’s camp told our correspondent that policemen stationed at the premises shot in the air to disperse the crowd. “It was just warning shots because some people in the crowd were getting uncontrollable”, he said. However, there was no record of fatality, although scores of people are believed to have been injured.

 The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), yesterday said no amount of joint security meetings or intimidation would make it jettison the proposed sit-at-home planned for Friday next week. Reacting to a press statement by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Garba Umar, IPOB said such joint security meeting was not needed in  Igboland, asking security agencies to channel their strategies to the North where there were security challenges. Just Imagine: Nigerian govt to ‘empower’ traders with N10,000

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday arrived in Iwo, Osun State to launch an empowerment programme for 30,000 traders from across the state. The programme tagged ‘Tradermoni’ is an initiative of the Federal Government in collaboration with the Bank of Industry for petty traders. Each of the 30,000 traders will receive the sum of N10,000 to boost their businesses. The Executive Director of BOI, Toyin Adeniji, said the bank would not relent until every Nigerian who is willing has access to loans irrespective of their status or level of education. Adeniji said the programme which has now been activated nationwide will support two million Nigerians to grow their businesses.
