The fifth accused person in the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has asked the court to jail the director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Akwa Ibom state. Bright 'Chimezie' Ishinwa in a fresh suit filed before the Federal High Court in Uyo, said the state's DSS director should be jailed for his continued detention. Ishinwa in his suit with suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/1046/2016 filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja also accused the DSS director of disobeying court order mandating his release. He alleged that his continued detention by the DSS is an act of contempt against the orders made by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu  on May 24.

Ishinwa in a supporting affidavit depose by Ahmed Sadiya said he was arrested by operatives of the secret police in October 2016 and has since been detained by the Uyo command of the DSS> Sadiya said a Federal High Court in Uyo had in its ruling ordered the DSS to pay the sum N5 million to Chimezie and his family as compensation.

The applicant also urged the court to make, "an order committing the Director, Department of State Services, Akwa Ibom State Command, Uyo, to prison for having disobeyed the order of this honourable court made on May 24, 2017, which ordered the release of the applicant on bail and the payment of N5, 000,000.00 (five million naira) only as compensatory damages to the applicant.”

Xender news, earlier reported that the wife of Ishinwa had asked the federal government and the DSS to release her husband.
Charity Ishinwa in her plea called for the release of her husband either dead or alive. Charity alleged that her husband was arrested after some security operatives attached to the DSS and the Nigerian army invaded their residence.
She said she has not set eyes on her husband since the invasion and arrest in August 2016. Nnamdi Kanu is absent as court begins hearing on his case.
